Day One

Well, really it's Day 3, as New Year's Day would have technically been Day One. But, yesterday wasn't really a good example of defying gravity. It was more like, giving in to inertia!

So I thought I'd try this (blogging) as a means to get motivated to reach my goal. My weight goal, that is.

It seems that every day I wake up, I say "today is the day!" ---only to crash and burn before noon. So, January 1 is as good as any.

Well, here it is in writing for all to see--I want to lose 8 pounds a month for the next year. After that, if I'm successful, I think the goal will be modified to keeping it off, as that is something I've never been able to do!

I won't weigh in every day, but I'll try to write every day that I weigh in. I may be setting myself up to fail in that I don't have a "food plan" in place yet, I only know that right now it has to be healthier and in smaller amounts. That, plus exercise, should get me through the first two weeks and from there we'll just take it as it comes and hopefully modify along the way!

I just came back from a brisk walk with my dog Daisy. I need to start timing it better and wearing my pedometer, but I think it was at least 30 minutes. It felt really good, and I've added a little drill to my walking. For some reason the other day, I kept singing "I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair" over and over again in my head, in time with my steps. Not that there is a man in my life to wash out, but you know how songs get in your head, right?

So then I found myself modifying the words to be "I'm gonna walk that fat right off of my ass", and singing it over and over in time w/my steps. Then, it became more of a chant, and I started at my feet and worked my way up. So, it would go,
"I"m gonna walk that fat right off of my feet" (yes, my feet have gotten bigger as I have gotten bigger), then upwards to:
  • Cankles (you know what I'm talking about)
  • Calves (the ones that won't fit into any kind of tall boot)
  • Knees (yes, I even have fat knees)
  • Thighs (need I say more?)
  • Ass
  • Hips
  • Abs
  • Back
  • Neck (which is starting to look like a Sharpei)

Then I work my way down again. I didn't say head or face, because for some reason, I've never been one to gain a ton of weight in my face. Which results in me looking like a Cherry Tomato on top of a Watermelon when I'm at my heaviest. It's really pretty. My sister Karol said today "when I see people who have lost a lot of weight really fast, their faces and skin look weird --sallow and gray". Well, needless to say, I have the rosiest cheeks in town! As one of the Gabor sisters said, "You have to choose--your face or your ass, dahling". Well, I'm hoping to fall somewhere in the middle.
